Work Experience for Pilates Training
Work experience is an integral part of all courses at Inspired Academy. We focus on ensuring that you’re job ready and understand the importance of working with clients in real world environments and situations upon graduating.
Work experience is a compulsory part of our courses which must be completed in order to graduate. Work experience includes both Observation and Assist Teaching hours. Hours Breakdown
Observation Hours - 10 Logged Hours
- 5 in person hours as a minimum
- 5 hours can be online observation
Observation hours are defined as any time spent as a student watching and listening to the happenings of an in person or live or online group Pilates class at an approved studio. When present at a ‘live’ group Pilates class you must adhere to the Student Observation Guidelines below.
- Contact the studio no later than 7 business days prior to the date of the scheduled class to enquire about observing.
- Arrive at the studio at least 10 minutes prior to the advertised class start time
- Wear any t-shirt,name tag or student identification issued by Inspired Academy
- Comply by any instructions given by the studio or the instructor you’re undertaking the work experience with
- Ask permission to take notes and if approved use a pen and paper as opposed to a phone or electronic device (often not approved in group class environments)
- Assist with pack up of the room afterwards
- Ask questions of the instructor at the end of the session when they have finished teaching, or if more convenient for the instructor email a list of questions to follow up if time is restricted
- Record the time spent observing, date, class type, instructor name and location of the class on the hours summary sheet and have it signed by the instructor/professional/teacher/manager.

Students who start to familiarise themselves with teaching clients in real life, gaining experience and therefore gaining confidence are more likely to gain employment through establishing connections with clients, and working on real-life situations that occur whilst having a qualified instructor present and then learning from that. Working through creating meaningful connections with clients, creating atmosphere through music and tone and exploring environments and applications of the method all contribute towards your success as an instructor.
- Contact the studio no later than 7 business days prior to the date of the scheduled class to enquire about assist teaching
- Await confirmation and ensure contact details are exchanged and/or an electronic calendar invitation is sent in order that the studio and instructor can contact you directly
- Email your programme to the instructor/professional/teacher/manager you will be working with indicating the programme you’d like to teach and requesting feedback from them. Also

- Comply by an instructions given by the studio or the instructor/professional/teacher/manager you’re undertaking the work experience with
- Introduce yourself to the clients and indicate your role as a student instructor and what you will be working on/a summary of the programme
- Deliver the programme, working with the instructor/professional/teacher/manager
- Assist with pack up of the room afterwards
- Ask questions at the end of the session rather than along the way
- Record the time spent assist teaching, date, class type, instructor name and location of the class on the hours summary sheet, and have it signed by the instructor/professional/teacher/manager
What Classifies as an approved Studio?
An approved studio is any studio that:
- Inspired Academy has an ongoing, formal working relationship with to deliver work experience to students including
- The Studio HQ – Hobart, TAS
- Pure Pilates – Kingston, TAS
- Launceston Pilates – Launceston, TAS
- An approved online platform for delivering Pilates including
- Inspired Academy TV
- Pilates Anytime
- Pilatesology
- A studio that meets the following criteria
- Is operating in delivering the Pilates method in a group fitness environment
- Is operated by an instructor trained in the Pilates method
- Is operated by a business with an active ABN or ACN
- Is agreeable to undertaking and signing off on work experience hours with permission sought in advance. Students must keep a copy of correspondence confirming permission and submit it along with their hours summaries.

Where do I submit my hours summaries?
You will need to upload your hours summary sheet so have it ready in either an electronic format or if in hard copy format, scanned and ready to upload as an electronic document.
You must submit your hours summary sheet within your course portal.
Hours FAQ
You have from the start date of your course to the end date of your course to accrue your work experience hours.

You can start observation hours from the course commencement date and assist teaching after you’ve completed Repertoire II.
